The Coureur des Bois trade knife is named after the French "woods runners" who were prevalent in Colonial North America. The blade has a slight drop-point profile and is suitable for dressing game, light skinning, or as an all-around utility knife. Rather than a belt loop, the sheath for this knife features a long leather cord so that this knife can be carried around the neck.
Below are the detailed measurements of this knife. One important note: for best comfort and grip, the length of your middle finger should be similar to the circumference of the handle.
Lightweight and fits my hand very nicely for small and more delicate tasks. The sheath is simply made, sturdy and has decent retention. The handle wood is wonderful. It was sharp, but I did have to put a finish on the edge.

I purchased a couple of coureur des bois neck knives and I am very happy with them. The craftsmanship is fantastic! The stitching on one of the sheaths had started to come undone, so I sent a picture and asked about a replacement. The response was a tracking number for a replacement sheath.
