Mora, Sweden has been very well-known as the center for Scandianvian knife-making culture for hundreds of years. The current company Morakniv is the result of a relatively recent merger between two of the largest knife manufacturers in Mora: Erikkson and Frost. Carbon steel blades are hardened to 58 - 60 on the Rockwell scale, stainless blades to 57 - 58. Some carbon steel Mora blades are constructed from laminated steel: a layer higher-carbon and harder (58-60 Rockwell) steel in the middle, sandwiched between two layers of lower-carbon, more durable steel to add strength. This results in a blade with is both tough, durable, and retains its sharpness without sacrificing blade strength. Stainless steel Mora blades are constructed from Swedish Sandvik 12C27 steel, hardened to 56-58 Rockwell.
