    This is the classic sharpening steel from Mora, for  kitchen knives, or any knife with a longer blade. Overall length is 12 inches, with the sharpening surface being around 7 inches. There is no official roughness (grit), but it feels like a finer diamond plate, so somewhere in the 1000-1200 range would be my best guess. Imported from Sweden.
